The History of Threadbear

Threadbear opened its doors in March 1992 and resided in a gracious brick building that housed a bakery in the 1870s in Central Victoria in Australia.  This is very fitting as we specialise in reproduction fabrics from the 1800s.

For many years this building was shared with Castlemaine Antiques, owned & operated by my partner, Kurt, who specialised in stocking, restoring and reproducing Australian country furniture.

On May 20th, 2017 we closed our shopfront to begin another phase of our life ~ semi-retirment.  We now operate on-line only stocking our very favourite fabrics that are in keeping with our original designs.  Also in stock are original quilt patterns by Megan Carroll, Margaret McDonald, Robyn Falloon and myself as well our favourite haby items and books.

My personal history of stitching started with my grandmothers, Nellie and Dora, teaching me the basics of embroidery when I was a child.  Nellie was a little messy with her stitchery while Dora was quite tidy and a prolific quilter.  I think I inherited a bit from each and hope they are both keeping an eye on me from above.
